Trip was preplaned . We love London, this trip we were on our own. Our first trip to London was on a tour of England and Scotland. We learned to use the underground and rail systems. Our favorite place to eat is Stephens Pub across the Westminster bridge opposite Big Ben. London has so much to offer.
Slough is yet another melting pot for nationalities living in England. The foods of the world bring people together as do the shopping malls. It is a road connection to go far & wide. Nearby is Windsor with its famous Castle & the Thames river Legoland not far off just a bus ride away. Eton College is almost under the castle walls- just across the bridge. Here all is old England conservation with a different type of shopping & people. Neither place is typical English Middle class but each represents its own kind of modern yet old style England. As Londoners say "you pays your money & you makes your choice" London is easily accessable from Slough by train.
We took the London Tour to visit Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath for a full day trip for £104.00 each and the guide Pete gave us a good history lesson on England from King William era to Queen Victoria era. But nothing can take away the awesome memory of walking into Windsor Castle seeing the royal lifestyle or the phenomenon of how huge blocks of stones can be stacked up with no glue or nail to hold it together, how did the people hinged it up?...who are these people?? So fascinating...Wonderful sights with the beautiful quaint city of Bath...the delicious Cornish pastries at Bath.
My absolutely favourite city in England. It’s simply magical - I could spend days just wondering around the cobble stoned streets, walking the walls or walking along the river. There are lots of great restaurants too and lovely little shops.
The UK's best shopping.lots of history of you walk around the back streets.very diverse restaurants and in the centre of the most scenic countryside in England
Great audio guide provided to explain all the sights in and around the castle. The staff were very helpful getting you in and going around. Good spot to see if you appreciate history and want to learn about the kings and queens of England.
In my opinion, Leeds is one of the best cities in England. It has a superb array of designer and independent shops, great restaurants and fantastic nightlife. It is a busy and vibrant city, with new bars, cafés and restaurants always opening. Leeds also one of the best live music scenes in the North, from Indie to Jazz to World music, there are gigs to suit everybody. I recommend visiting Briggate and the Victoria Quarter for your designer fashion needs, and take a trip up some of the side streets for the indie shops. You are never far away from great bars or restaurants in Leeds, so you can wander to any part of the centre and you’ll find somewhere great. For a bit more culture, visit the Royal Armouries Museum which is only a short walk out of the centre and visit Leeds Art Gallery right next to the town hall. If you’re travelling there by car be warned! The ring road system is the city centre is ludicrously designed so that if you miss your desired turning you have to loop all the way back round the city again! As you can imagine this is very fruatrating, and is only thing I dislike about Leeds. As to be expected, the morning and tea time rush hour traffic is pretty hectic.
I lived in England many years ago and now go back at least once a year. London is one of my favorite cities in the world. Also note for vegan travelers London is rising up to be one of the most awesome destinations for plant-based dining.
The SS Great Britain and the adjacent - included in your admission - museums are a must see. The ship is a stunning piece of living history, lovingly restored and interpreted to please the whole family. Brunel is a fascinating character any way you approach him. Walk the Clifton suspension bridge and imagine hanging over that awesome gorge in a basket as he did! Clifton is the place to stay, scenic walks, pubs, cafes, shops, charming rows of mansions, gardens around every corner and (when the sun is shininhg) massive views. Nobody does "slightly upscale but down-to-earth" better than the Brits. Clifton is simultaneously homey and cool. The GWR is not to be missed. This is a beautiful part of England and the trains allow you to relax and enjoy the countryside. I found the transit systems blessedly user-friendly; but if you're ever confused, just ask your question in the general direction of the nearest human being and you will promptly have all the answers you ever required and more. Love the Brits! Love'em!
Salisbury is an excellent location in southern England. It is close to Stonehenge, Bath, Portsmouth, and additionally has a wonderful Cathedral with Magna Carta.
I need to call Booking.com because I chose not to stay once I saw the room. The accommodations were like a Motel 6 in the states. Not at all what I expect from a hotel in England. A Premiere Inn would be nicer than this. This was my only booking that truly let me down. After seeing the room, I immediately checked out. I was there for maybe 10 minutes, and got no refund. They said because I booked through Booking.com they could not refund me. Would not stay. Will not return.
The location is amazing. It’s a sweet & roomy two bedroom apartment in the middle of Bath. I was with my 80 yr old Mom, who is in great shape, but it IS 3 flights up on stairs..so keep that in mind. We shopped at Waitrose & happily used the kitchen rather than dining out every meal. When I had any questions, Lynsey was an absolute doll & promptly was in touch. Honestly, the best place we stayed in our 2 week tour of England. Don’t miss this one!
Keswick
This was a very comfortable place to stay. We stayed in 6 different locations on a 2 week tour of England and frankly this was the best bed of any place we stayed. The room was so comfortable. Loved our stay in this recently renovated hotel. We hiked in Whinlatter Forest and explored Keswick, The Ruddings was situated perfectly in the middle. The staff were very helpful, food was delicious, and as someone traveling in a car, there was plenty of parking!
Penzance
The best hotel we have stayed in during our visit to England and Wales. Ideal location near town centre. Very comfortable room with temperature and bedding suited to the climate at the time (Sep). Self-service breakfast in fully equipped kitchen was all that we asked for, yet gave others wide scope to suit themselves. Staff gave us a friendly reception, helped with our luggage, and guided us to the places we wanted to go in Penzance.
Falmouth
Room was a bit compact and with only one comfortable chair but had all the usual amenities ( except for aircon of course - this is England ). Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The smoked haddock for breakfast was a real treat. We had one meal in the pub which we enjoyed but no food service on Monday or Tuesday unfortunately. We had a nice seaview albeit framed by scaffolding as mentioned in other reviews.
The staff at reception and in the restaurant were nice and welcoming. We appreciated the hotel-provided car park across the street. The room had two beds (double and twin) and a good-sized bathroom with a bathtub. At reception, they made us a dinner and breakfast reservation. Dinner at the restaurant was great! The strawberry sundae is one of our highlights from our full trip to England. Loved the view and walking along the canal.
The only 5 star hotel on the south coast of England provided exceptional old school charm & service & food. We ate at the Mirabelle restaurant & had the tasting menu & wine flight. Outstanding new chef Alex Burtenshaw created such an amazing dinner- highlights were the salt marsh lamb & the poached monkfish. Sommelier Ronnie Tayao matched all the courses perfectly with his stunning wine flight.
It was just as expected … a quaint, older, quiet pub and inn. We didn’t want to visit England and stay in a big franchised Hotel. Comfortable bed. The room included a couch (which would make into a bed). The bathroom was very clean and updated. And all of the staff were helpful and friendly. Gave us some great advise on visiting in downtown Canterbury. And dinner was convenient, just ran downstairs.
Birmingham
I was upgraded upon arrival from a studio to a one-bed apartment. The views are obviously amazing, due to the type of building aircon isn't available, but its England so only two days of the year would you need it, however the opening floor to ceiling window really helped cool the room down. Spacious, good view, comfy and a bargain for the date I stayed - and discounted parking
The location and price can’t be beat. It’s right in the heart of Oxford for a very affordable price. It’s not a fancy hotel, but it’s clean and comfortable. The rooms are on the top of the continuing education building. There is an elevator but as with everything in England there are still stairs to contend with so not suitable for wheelchairs or heavy over-packed luggage types.
Location / walking distance to Metro, restaurants, park, family member's apartment. We bought location (area) at a budget price. Spent rather money on our Graduate. After being in Switzerland, France and in a London Airbnb, we realized that choosing accommodations in England the trade-off between price and comfort has to be very carefully evaluated.
everything,Location in one of Englands most charming historic fishing towns, world traveller with experience of hotels all over the world old, isitrd by aristocracy for over a Hundred years known it all my life,Good enough for Winston Churchill and aristocracy good enough for me.and with booking com the price for me makes it a bucket list,I could live here!
Newcastle upon Tyne
Excellent location. Cheap. Clean. Stayed previously but never visited kitchen/common room area before, so this time was very impressed with facilities offered. Matt on the front desk was very friendly, helpful, hospitable and welcoming. He was full of great local tips. It's a shame there are not more Albatross Hostels around England!
new and clean property from Jesus college at the centre of Cambridge. This apartment is the finest accommodation during my trip to England, offering a fine kitchen, a lovely balcony. you got the chance to visit some colleges nearby such as trinity, Jesus, Magdalene etc. besides, breakfast here if fantastic! definitely recommend.
Wonderful ambiance of this charming hotel. Food in restaurant was delicious , the best we ate in England. The staff in the restaurant were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was good with several choices and they happily made lattes. The front desk was very helpful in getting us taxis and giving directions.
Durham
One of the best Italian meals we had in England (if not the BEST) We spent two nights at La Fattoria. On both evenings we ate in the restaurant - the food, cooked by Max, service and wine were exceptional. We would recommend La Fattoria to everyone and of course will return whenever we're near Durham.
Location close to the Cruise Terminal was great. Southampton is a major cruise port in Southern England. The bed was comfortable. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was just okay. It's a bar/cafe combo without much variety. Staff handled an issue with the room well (and seemed embarrassed as well).
Nice business class hotel with all the comforts and amenities of a modern hotel. Nice functional bathroom, roomy shower, working air conditioner, large-ish room. They have a bar. Breakfast was pretty decent. A welcome respite after all the 'charming' little hotels in England.
The receptionist arranged for us to have a secure room for our bikes during our cycling trip through England. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. the staff were very attentive and it is pleasant to have a drink in the hotel in the evening in a cosy atmosphere
Penrith
The oiwners were wonderful the meals including breakfast were superb. Our room was large with plenty of storage space and just perfect for our ine night stop to nreak up the drive between Scotland and England. I would deinitely recommend this hotel and would certainly stay again.
